Festive Events in The ATX area
With the end of December looming, many different holidays are quickly approaching. With all the shopping, cooking, and planning that goes into the holidays, sometimes it’s nice to attend an event that reminds us what the holidays are all about. Events like these help Texans get in the holiday spirit, despite not having the typically White Christmas other places expect. These are some fun, popular, family friendly events that I have found in the Austin, Texas area.
The Trail of Lights
The trail of lights is an annual Austin tradition that started back in 1965. Hosted at Zilker Park, The Trail of Lights is a huge light show, enjoyed by the Austin community. According to their website, the trail itself is 1.25 miles, but those who attend typically walk over 2 miles, as they participate in all the extra attractions they have available. The trail of lights is currently open, and closes on December 23rd.
Georgetown Square
The Georgetown square has gotten into the holiday spirit through decorations. It is encapsulated by lights, a tradition that have continued for 45 years. The Round Rock square offers a similar experience, with lots of lights. At both of these squares, you can get some shopping done, and also enjoy some delicious food.
Ice Skating at Whole Foods, Downtown Austin
At the downtown, Austin location of whole foods, they offer rooftop ice skating. It's $10 a person, a fun activity to do after some grocery shopping.
Light Spectacular
Similarly to the Georgetown and Round Rock square’s, Johnson City is currently decked out in lights for their ‘light spectacular’. According to their website, if you come out before dark, you can also enjoy the “historic downtown with your family, enjoy local food, beer, wine, and festivities in a family fun atmosphere.”
Walkway of Lights
If you find yourself out in Marble Falls, they have a great activity for you! There is a walkway of lights that includes food vendors, ice skating, and a trail of lights that you can walk through with your family or friends.
These are some fun events that family and friends could attend this weekend, to help get into the holiday spirit. There are many more local events, so please tell us which ones you attended! From our office, to yours, happy holidays!
